Every single day at my shop, someone asks me “Is your dog violent/dangerous/aggressive,” or some other version of that question. Rio here, a pit bull, is a classy old guy. He’s a “shop dog,” a nanny–loyal, attentive to children, sweet, and very protective. Every day, he’s petted by dozens of people, nuzzles up to strangers, and changes the minds of people who otherwise think of his kind as “killers.” And, every night that I have15267629_1162695653799328_52657433828493825_n this little girl, he is sleeping right here (but with a watchful eye, as you can see). When she’s not here, he sleeps next to her bed.

You see, the answer to that question of “Is he dangerous,” is a secret to everyone but me. Because this dog, best friend, sweet boy, is absolutely 100% dangerous–to anyone who seeks to harm his little best friend.

And I’m quite okay with that.
