I posted this to FB on 9.11.2016 during the election. It deserves a read.
I dislike Hillary Clinton as much or more than any other person out there. I think she’s a malevolent psychopath, and is actually dangerous for this country. Her actions–the things she does that I disagree with, are fair game.
However, I’ve never referred to her as “b—-,” or any of the other more denigrating terms I’ve seen people who say violent things about women, use. I disagree with her POSITIONS, her ACTIONS, and her POLICIES, as a politician. And, this may come as a shock to some of you, but As a human being, a woman, wife, mother and grandmother, she has value and should be respected as such.
Today, there is a frightening video showing her, in what Looks to me like (I am not a medical professional though) to be, stroke-like or seizure-like behavior. It’s not a “conspiracy theory” that there’s a problem here. It’s not a “right wing ruse.” It’s just being minimally-freaking-observant. Even if it was “just dehydration,” It’s still frightening. Why, you ask?
Because as a woman, her husband loves her. Seeing your wife of several decades stumbling and losing control as she walks, has to be heartbreaking. I know I have friends on here who have watched their spouse or partner slowly fading and there’s nothing you can do about it, how helpless did you feel? Magnify that by everyone knowing about it, and people cheering for it? She has a daughter who loves her, respects her, idolizes her every word…I can’t help but think, “How would Remy handle this if, as an adult, she was watching in shocked horror as not only this awful thing was happening, but the “moral majority” are laughing and cheering it on? How disgusting is that?
And lastly, when I watched that video today, and have seen her struggle with speeches and cough uncontrollably and that stumble…I saw a visage of my own grandmother–strong as an ox for so many years, as she slid into dementia last year, started falling, got angrier, and is now in a facility. It was the kind of experience that I, as an adult man, have wept over many times, and we as a family at least endured it mostly in private. HRC is a grandmother. And those that call her that, are watching her health problems be made into a public and monstrous debacle.
Is she lying about its severity? Probably. Look at how badly she’s being treated over what are essentially, up until today, rumors. Wouldn’t you?
Does she deserve to be president? No way in hell. Does she deserve to be dehumanized? EVEN LESS SO.
What I’m trying to say is, if she were a member of your church, or PTA or book club or your local Elks, even if you disagreed with her politically, you could find empathy for her struggles and for the family who loves her, you would find a way to grant them solace. What I’m seeing is far from that.
Yes, I do believe that the future of our republic is at stake, were she to win this election–as a politician. But, with the way we are treating her as a woman, a wife, a mother and grandmother, in a time of weakness, I’m even more worried that our nation’s soul is at stake.
So please, at least on today, of all days…just stop.
I’m adding a PS here, for all of my friends who claim faith is an important part of their life.
The video of her stumbling literally sent flashbacks of my own grandmother stumbling this time last year. The greatest woman I ever knew, she was–and not a better person you’d meet. I then wondered if her grandkids will watch that video one day, and read the comments that “God-fearing” people have left, and never open a bible because of it. We have a responsibility to engage, and fight, but in a way that our Creator would not be embarrassed of
